Drum tipper with power-rotation: control positions

Posted

Each drum tipper can be fitted with powered drum rotation, the controls can be fitted in two locations: control panel (rear) or head assembly (front).

Who does this feature benefit?

The powered drum rotation feature on the Universal Drum Rotator is popular with customers who handle large quantities of drums per day. Time can be saved through speeding up the dispensing process, this stacks up and amounts to significant efficiency gains over the lifespan of the handling equipment.

In certain instances equipment is used to decant drums on a mezzanine deck or other work platform, with the stacker truck lifting drums from below. In these situations, head-mounted controls provide operators with precise control close to the tipping operation. Drums can be tipped in a controlled fashion with the risk of a spillage being significantly reduced.

Electric models – how does it work?

Our electric-powered drum tippers have electric-hydraulic lift and electric rotation. The rotation of the drum is powered by an electric motor via a worm-wheel gearbox. The control is inputted through a wig-wag throttle; operators turn a circular dial to tip the drum forwards, they turn the dial in the opposite direction to bring the drum back to the vertical; in the neutral position all rotation stops. This electrical system can be mounted on the rear control panel behind the lifting channels, or alternatively on the head assembly next to the drum being handled.

Pneumatic-hydraulic models – how does it work?

These drum tippers have pneumatic-hydraulic lift and pneumatic-hydraulic rotation. Drums are rotated using a hydraulic motor through a worm-wheel gearbox. Controls are via hydraulic push/pull levers and as such operators are controlling the flow of oil to the motor. When the lever is pushed the drum tips forwards, when the lever is pulled the drum tips back; in the neutral all functions stop. The hydraulic controls can be mounted on the rear control panel behind the lifting channels, or alternatively on the head assembly next to the drum being handled.
